Magdalena. Orinoco.
Containers in, decks out.
Latin America's interior basins move on rivers, not roads. Sentinel sections ship by container to Caribbean and Atlantic-coast ports, then truck or barge to Magdalena, Orinoco, and Amazon-system operators.
Overview
River logistics where the highway never finished.
Colombia's Magdalena River moves over 1.5 million barrels of oil products per month for Ecopetrol, Trafigura's Impala subsidiary, and the rest of the inland-energy sector. Venezuela's Orinoco Delta sits on top of latent hydrocarbon reserves with virtually no fixed infrastructure. Brazil's Amazon Basin runs continuous mining, energy, and remote-community logistics that pipeline and road networks will never fully serve.
Sentinel sectional barges ship into all three by container from North American Atlantic and Gulf ports. Sections clear customs at Cartagena, Maracaibo, Belém, or other regional gateways and truck or barge to inland staging points. Once on the river, the modules pin together with our flange-and-pin system into whatever deck the operator needs — crude transport, modular refinery move, dredge support, drill-rig float-out.
We don't operate yards or run barges in the region. Sections sell to your operating entity, who flags and crews under local rules. What we deliver is the steel, the stamped engineering, and the documentation — landed at the regional port of your choice.
Applications
What our barges do in this region
Crude & refined-product transport
Long, narrow, shallow-draft sectional configurations for moving barrels on the Magdalena and other inland river systems.
Modular refinery & equipment moves
Heavy-deck sections to transport pre-fabricated industrial modules, drilling rigs, and large equipment to remote interior sites.
River dredging & maintenance
Spudded platforms for excavator and cutter-suction dredging in seasonal low-water Latin American rivers.
Pipeline routing & repair support
Stable platforms for spool storage, welding, and dive support during shallow-water pipeline lay and repair.
Remote-community resupply
Sectional Ro-Ro configurations for resupplying Amazon, Orinoco, and Caribbean coastal communities with no port infrastructure.
Mine-site logistics
Heavy-deck platforms for inland mine resupply, equipment moves, and tailings work across Andean and Amazonian mining operations.
Why Sentinel
Container-shippable steel for an entire continent of inland waterways.
The Latin American operating environment punishes single-purpose marine equipment. Seasonal river-level swings, dispersed project geography, and inconsistent fixed-infrastructure investment all reward operators who can scale, redeploy, and intermodally ship their fleet. Sentinel sections deliver against all three: ISO-format portability, pin-flange reconfiguration, and stamped engineering documentation that satisfies international lender and HSE requirements.
Spec it for your job
Spec a barge fleet for Latin American river or coastal operations.
Tell us the river, the cargo, the seasonal water profile, and the operating jurisdiction. We'll engineer a sectional fleet that ships intermodally to your regional port, clears customs against documented technical specifications, and assembles inland for the operating window you have.

Regional FAQ
Direct answers about heavy deck barges, charter terms, and global delivery.
- Sections ship by container, RoRo, or breakbulk from North American Atlantic and Gulf ports — Houston, Jacksonville, Savannah, Norfolk, Halifax. The Back Lake 8×20 fits inside a standard 40 ft container, two per box. We coordinate the freight forwarder, customs documentation, and inland trucking through to your nominated regional port.
- No. Sections sell to your operating entity, who flags, crews, and operates them under local rules. We provide the steel, the stamped engineering documentation, and any technical support your operating partner needs at handover.
- Stamped P.Eng. drawings, Transport Canada approval, certified mill test reports for the structural steel, and CSA W59 welding documentation form a baseline that international lenders (IFC, IDB, regional development banks) and major-operator HSE auditors routinely accept.
- Yes — that's the design intent. Sections that move crude on the Magdalena this season can disassemble, container-ship, and redeploy on the Orinoco or Amazon next season. ISO-format portability is the whole point.
- Standard sectional builds run 8–14 weeks shop time, plus 3–5 weeks ocean freight to most Latin American ports. Custom builds run 12–20 weeks shop. Freight is quoted with the steel based on your nominated destination port.
